Call for Abstracts for the 2024 Team Conference for Hospice and Palliative Care

The Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association (HPNA), in partnership Association of Professional Chaplains (APC), Physician Associates in Hospice and Palliative Medicine (PAHPM), Social Work Hospice + Palliative Care Network (SWHPN), Society of Pain and Palliative Care Pharmacists (SPPCP), and Transforming Chaplaincy is pleased to announce a call for abstracts for the 2024 Team Conference for Hospice & Palliative Care, scheduled for September 28, 2024 at the University of Maryland School of Nursing. 

The goal of the Team Conference for Hospice and Palliative Care is to highlight work where multiple disciplines are represented in the research team and quality improvement projects. Therefore, priority consideration will be given to research or evidence-based practice abstracts that include interprofessional team members as either research participants, project investigators, authors, and/or presenters. 

Only the first 100 submissions will be reviewed. 

NCPDs, Category 1 Pharm Credits, ASWB CEs, and CMEs will be provided for qualifying content.

Abstract submissions for oral presentations and posters will be accepted until Monday, May 20, 2024. Accepted Presenters will be notified by Friday, June 7, 2024. This is an in-person event. All posters and podium presentations will be live. The recordings will be made available soon after for virtual access, but presentations will not be pre-recorded.

- Accepted oral presentations will receive 50% off conference registration.

- Accepted poster presentations will receive 25% off conference registration.

- 100% of travel and hotel costs are at the expense of the presenter.

Review the below checklist before you submit your abstract to improve the likelihood of its acceptance. 

- Carefully review and choose the top two topic areas for submission (e.g., Grief and Bereavement, Team Dynamics, Symptom Management, etc.)

- Include clear wording that your research is completed if you are submitting an abstract for an oral concurrent session.

- Ensure that topic is applicable for the interprofessional palliative care team and identify who the target audience is for your session.

- Provide sufficient background information to support the importance of the problem addressed.

- Identify the learning level for the abstract (e.g., Novice, Competent, Expert, etc.)

- Submit three learning outcomes that are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-sensitive.  

- Abstracts submission will include a brief (100 words) summary, and a more detailed abstract (300 words).

- Implications and conclusions must be supported by the results.

- References from three scholarly sources from within the last five years.  

- Define acronyms and obscure or new concepts/terminology.  

- Most recent copy of CV or resume for all presenters.

- Professional headshot for use with marketing sessions and the conference for all presenters. 

Abstract reviews will focus on the following areas: 

- Adds to existing knowledge and presents an innovative/cutting-edge topic. 

- Scientific/clinical content is valid and supports the conclusions.

- Provides an interprofessional approach.
